Gambling was present in almost every major, ancient civilization. From the Mesolithic rolling of hucklebones, to the Mesopotamian invention of the six-sided die, and finally to the Chinese invention of the card, not only did gambling survive through countless civilizations of ancient history, it evolved into a global phenomenon.
Ancient debris is a rare ore found in the Nether, and is the main source of netherite scraps. Its high blast resistance makes it immune to normal explosions. In item form, it floats on lava and cannot be burned by any form of fire.
Ancient Roman Gambling / Gaming Dice 1st-3rd century AD Dice such as these were carried all across the Roman Empire by traveling, marching legionnaires during the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. After a long, hard day of toil and misery soldiers would congregate rowdily around fires, and in taverns, drinking and playing games of chance with their dice. Gambling was definitely present in ancient Greece; however, there were split opinions whether activities of this kind should be forbidden or not. A research by casinoshortlist.org on the topic showed that many Greek philosophers strongly opposed the idea of gambling and even claimed that this activity would become a plague. There is plenty of archaeological evidence that Vikings enjoyed dice games, sets of hand carved dice have been found at burial sites across Scandinavia and the British Isles, these dice were used in board games, but also on their own in a game called “Mia” or “Liar Dice.”.

Obtaining[edit]
Natural generation[edit]
Ancient debris generates in the Nether in the form of mineral veins. Up to two veins may generate per chunk: one vein of 1–3 ancient debris attempts to generate with a periodic normal distribution (similarly to lapis lazuli ore) from levels 8 to 22, and an additional vein of 1–2 ancient debris attempts to generate randomly from levels 8 to 119. On average, Y-level 15 has the most ancient debris.
There is an average of 1.65 ancient debris blocks per chunk[needs testing], with a normal maximum of 5. However, it is technically possible for up to 11 ancient debris to be found in a single chunk; adjacent chunks can generate veins on the border with up to 2 blocks spawning in an adjacent chunk. As of Java Edition 1.16.4, on average they generate 1.56 ores per chunk. Given this number, and that there are 65536 blocks in a chunk (16 * 256 *16), there is approximately a 0.002% chance that any randomly selected block will be an ancient debris block.
Ancient debris never generates naturally exposed to air and can replace only netherrack, basalt, and blackstone.[note 1] It may also generate alongside smaller pockets of lava.
Breaking[edit]
Ancient debris drops as an item if mined by a diamond or netherite pickaxe. If mined by any other tool, it drops nothing.

Trivia[edit]
- Despite ancient debris' rarity, emerald ore is actually rarer; emerald ore has a lower spawn chance per chunk, and while ancient debris can appear in veins as large as five in any Nether biome, emerald ore generates only as individual ore blocks in mountain biomes.
- The texture of the ancient debris is supposed to look like pressed metal plates.[1]
- Ancient debris yields the most experience of any item when smelted.
- Ancient debris is actually what remains of the mining activity of the piglins, who extracted all the original netherite ore.[2]
- Ancient debris does not generate exposed to air, but can sometimes be seen on the surface when it generates adjacent to a fungus or twisting vines.
- Ancient debris is the only ore that does not use the same texture on all six sides.
- It is possible to find veins of up to 20 contiguous ancient debris - up to five debris can generate in a chunk, so if a vein of five generates in adjacent corners of four different chunks, a vein of 20 debris would be created.

Notes[edit]
- ↑The generation system explicitly attempts to place ancient debris where it is not exposed to air. Rarely, ancient debris can be exposed by later generation processes. It can also be exposed to fungi.

Gambling in the UK is prolific and there are plenty of sites where you can gamble online, but the industry is also highly regulated and controlled. This is not shady, fly by night business.
Who regulates Online Gambling in the UK?
Online gambling in the UK is regulated under the 2005 Gambling Act (amended in 2014) that allows for the legal provision of certain forms of interactive betting, including online sports betting, casino games, and bingo, provided that players are over the age of 18. Since then, many new casinos have established themselves in the UK.
The UK Gambling Commission has jurisdiction over the entire gambling industry in the UK. It is there to prevent players from being taken advantage of by unscrupulous operators as well as unfair terms, practices and wagering requirements. Since the beginning of 2020, the self-exclusion scheme Gamstop is mandatory for UK-licensed gambling sites. The casinos which are not included on Gamstop are illegal if they are directed to UK gamblers. Most of these casinos are directed to a European customer, but open to UK players. That makes them still legal. The same logic occurs to betting sites not on Gamstop.
Ancient Gambling Acts and Laws
Gambling is as old as time and while the current Gambling Act was introduced in 2005, there have been laws governing gambling in the UK for centuries. In 1190, King Richard I of England created the first known gambling laws, outlining who would be allowed to gamble and how much they could wager.
In 1509 gambling was banned in England by King Henry VIII. But under the reign on his daughter, Queen Elizabeth I, the first gaming act in the UK was passed by parliament and the first state lottery was held in England on 11 January 1569.
The main jackpot was £5 000 but every person who bought a ticket won a prize. The lottery was designed to raise money for the royal coffers so that England could shore up its ailing coastal defences.
In 1612 King James I created a lottery to raise funds for Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent British settlement in North America. By 1760 betting on the horses had become a popular pastime among the aristocracy and the government turned a blind eye to their activities, but it was still a criminal act that was enforced among the lower classes.
In 1739 and 1745 Gaming Acts were introduced that banned wagers on a wide variety of pub games, including darts and roulette.
The Betting and Gaming Act 1960 and Beyond
Prior to 1960, betting in the UK was still subject to archaic and outdated laws. But that all changed with a British Act of Parliament, passed on 1 September 1960, which legalised certain forms of gambling, allowing for the wager of small sums of money in games of skill such as bridge.
Ancient Egyptian Gambling
In May 1961 betting shops were allowed to open and gambling has flourished in Britain ever since. The Gambling Act 2005 now controls all forms of gambling in the UK and transferred the authority for the issuing of gambling licences from magistrates courts to local authorities as well as creating the Gambling Commission.
